7 Ways To Use Postcards To Promote Any Business
Example: Traditional Scenic Photo-Postcards
OBJECTIVE:
You would like to sell picture postcards of local views to shops, restaurants and tourist attractions in your area. Your main aim is to build volume and get repeat business back to your web site.
SOLUTION:
Print a selection of your best local popular scenes and test prices with local outlets, printing only as many as you need - find out what sells best! Once you are confident that you have a market, you may wish to customise the reverse of your postcards. If ordering over 1000 postcard blanks, you can download our postcard template, which can be easily modified in Adobe Photoshop. This allows you to add your branding and create effective custom messages for your postcards. CLICK Here to download the template and further details on this service (this is a layered .PSD file so please allow around 2 minutes to download).
We suggest you sub-title your front image with a readable font size and contrasting color and include a custom message on the reverse. The message on the reverse should advise the web address they should visit to view further scenes. A number of larger sizes and other more profitable options (framed prints etc) may also be offered.
RESULT:
Many outlets will be encouraged to buy whole sets of scenic view postcards from you, and you encourage plenty of repeat business and website clicks! You can also sell a 16 aperture card mount to display the entire collection for example, if you create a collectable series of 16 related scenes.
Example: Wedding Follow-Up
PROBLEM:
Wedding guests forget to order re-prints and lose your web address and access code for viewing images and placing orders.
SOLUTION:
Send a reminder postcard ...
A reminder postcard sent to the guest list (addressed to the female of the couple if possible!) with the unique web address (as short as possible) and access code.
RESULT:
Many re-print orders. The fact that postcards are often kept on display means re-print orders are likely over a longer period!
Example: Christmas Card
PROBLEM:
Too many clients are falling by the wayside - repeat orders are drying up, you suspect you are losing customers to competitors, or just you have just taken your foot off the gas a little!
SOLUTION:
Remind your client list that you still exist by sending the occasional greetings card (a Christmas card for this example) ...
This should not be a hard sell! Use Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving - even a memorable event, like the anniversary of a wedding, a birthday etc. The more important the client, the more personal the message can be! Remember to include your key contact info, and a subtle reminder of the services you provide.
RESULT:
Do not expect an instant response but you re-connect with your existing customers, especially if you follow up with a conversational phone call or email for larger clients.
Example: Newsflash Postcards for Existing Clients
PROBLEM:
You want to keep your customers updated with your latest news and services but suspect many of your emails are not getting read.
SOLUTION:
Get into the habit of regular postcard mailouts with brief news highlighting possible benefits to your customers and new prospects. For example, a new service you offer, studio revamps, special offers/events etc.
The message will be brief so be sure to include details as to where your customer can view further information.
RESULT:
You keep your business in the clients mind. You re-assure your customers that you are moving forward and that you are valuable to them!
Example: Traditional Scenic Photo-Postcards
PROBLEM:
You or your clients want to invite visitors to a social or business gathering; in the past, traditional invitations within an envelope tend to get hidden amongst the rest of the mail.
SOLUTION:
A colorful, vibrant photo postcard invitation immediately stands out from the pile of white letters we receive each day. Postcard invites that are hand written on the reverse will have a better response rate than printed invitations.
For the front, be sure to use striking photography, interesting images, clear text and punchy colors for maximum impact. Make sure you list plenty of reasons to attend your event. Put yourself in the position of the person receiving the invite - would you be persuaded to attend?
RESULT:
You show a strong visual message, immediately delivered with the best chance of response.
Example: Family Photo Shoot
PROBLEM:
Low bookings, fewer studio shoots, poor re-print order levels.
SOLUTION:
Limited time special offers or discount vouchers presented as an eye-catching photo-postcard ...
The front shows the image quality you provide with a compelling offer or tempting discount. Ensure you provide a clear call to action with your key contact info. Adding any societies you below to or photographic qualifications you have will add to your credibility.
RESULT:
Your feedback should be virtually immediate when mailing your special offer postcards to your recent customer list. Older customers may also be encouraged to take up your offer!
Example: Sports Photography Website
PROBLEM:
You have a great looking website but suffers from a lack of visitors and online bookings.
SOLUTION:
Send promo postcards to your target audience showing tempting online offers and booking discounts online only. New online services or enhancements may also be a viable reason to send a postcard.
Go through your old orders list and mail them. Check the demographics of your typical customer and even purchase a mailing list that meets this criteria. Consider inserting a postage-paid postcard* into a periodical which closely agrees with your typical customer profile. Encourage your customers to email enquiries, which boost your email database. Repeat your postcard mailings to prime prospects on a regular basis. Create a unique landing page if necessary, helping you to measure the response. *ask for USPS reply service.
RESULT:
Low-cost, measurable sales effort.
